It’s usually during our lowest moments that we find our true selves and dive deep into our purpose. That’s how Rocio Ferdman found holistic healing and entered the world of Reiki and sound therapy practices.
Rocio now helps others with sound and energy medicine so they too can live a healthy, happy life filled with purpose. You can learn more about Rocio and her work here:
Tell me about your professional background.
I am a trained Reiki Master and Sound Healer who specializes in working with Crystal Alchemy Bowls, Tibetan Bowls, Tuning Forks and other Sound/Frequency instruments in promoting full-spectrum healing and wellness. I work with clients on an individual 1×1 basis as well as offer group events. Prior to transitioning into the field of Holistic Wellness in 2018, I worked in Corporate America for 12 years and was the CEO of a National Property Management Company.
What made you want to get into this field?
I got into this field after being diagnosed with an auto-immune condition and being unable to find answers within the western medical system. In 2017 after experiencing divorce and job loss my health took a turn for the worst leaving me bedridden and unable to function for years. After receiving a diagnosis in 2018 I was told my condition was incurable. I found myself hopeless, sick, severely depressed and without a purpose. I was ready to give up on life. I hit rock bottom. Soon after sound healing found me! Followed by reiki, yoga and spirituality, the rest was history!
What has been your favorite aspect of this work?
Helping others and sharing the tools of sound and energy medicine allowed me to heal and find purpose within my own life. I enjoy inspiring others and showing them new and different ways to achieve full spectrum healing.
Can you explain what sound healing is and what a typical session is like from start to finish?
Sound healing is a holistic form of therapy that uses aspects of music to improve physical, and emotional health and well-being. It promotes full-spectrum healing by slowing down your brain waves, which affect every cell in your body, shifting them from diseased to be in ease. A sound healing session can easily be described as a deep energetic tissue massage! A session begins with a consultation to discuss the intention of the session, followed by a guided meditation lead in sound, energy and harmony. By the time the session concludes clients can expect to feel lighter, much more relaxed, open and shifted into a clearer state of being.
How can sound healing be supportive in overall healing and well-being?
Not only is Sound Therapy effective in achieving a state of relaxation, but it also has a way of moving through blockages in the body. Sound healing can support the body, mind and spirit. It truly is a full spectrum form of healing therapy and medicine that has shown many positive benefits including improvement in mental & physical health such as a decrease in anxiety or depression, reduction in stress, high blood pressure, sleep disorders as well as physical ailments and pain.
Is there a technique in your practice that you have found to be the most beneficial to the people you work with?
When working 1×1 with clients I like to play the bowls or forks on their bodies, this allows for the energy to subtly move through the body. Clients find this to be very relaxing and clearing, at times allowing them to release any stuck energy that they may be holding onto.
What is sound healing like from the patient’s point of view?
A relaxing experience in which they are fully taken care of, allowing them to fully surrender, receive and recharge. A deep energetic tissue massage!
What would you say to someone skeptical about sound healing and its effectiveness? How do you approach that?
I can understand how something new can at times cause scepticism so I always ask my clients to go into it with an open mind and have zero expectations of what will happen. Sound healing sessions are like no other and everyone’s experience is different indeed, so it’s important to go in with an open mind and heart, just ready to receive. My favourite part is the “after” and listening to the clients’ experience, especially when they’re new to Sound Healing because they are usually hooked after that first session.
Besides sound healing do you have any universal health and well-being tips that you’d like to share?
Laughter! and not taking life so seriously. I find that this advice has helped me overall in life with keeping a positive outlook.
If there was one piece of advice you could give to someone who is struggling, what would it be? I know things may look tough right now and perhaps as if there’s no way out. But know you are not alone and trust that this too shall pass, allowing you to one day look back on this experience in gratitude.
What resources would you recommend? (books, podcasts, websites that you’ve found helpful).
I found the work of Dr Joe Dispenza to be extremely powerful including his books, meditations and in-person retreats. I also found The Surrender Experiment, Becoming Supernatural and The Power of Now to be very powerful books along my journey.
